«Sankofa means to reach back. Its symbol is a mythical bird with its feet firmly planted forward with its head turned backwards. Thus, the Akan of Ghana in West Africa believe the past serves as a guide for planning the future. To the Akan, it is this wisdom in learning from the past which ensures a strong future.»
Join us at the Sojourner Truth Museum for a forum featuring Sacramento activists currently engaged in the struggle for Black Liberation as we reflect on history and think about the future.
Hear from this panel about the importance of solidarity between nations, the role and history of the police, and the struggle against mass incarceration and political imprisonment followed by a discussion of how best to move forward in the current political and social climate.
Also join us on Wednesday Feb 22nd at the Sol Collective for a film screening of In the Land of the Free about the Angola 3, three former Black Panther political prisoners who were finally freed after decades of struggle.
