Artist talk with Julia Couzens presented by the CSUS, University Library Gallery on the occasion of the current exhibition LAST WORDS on view through December 15, 2017.
Julia Couzens has shown throughout the United States and in Belgium, India, and Japan. Often called “an artist’s artist,” her work is in numerous museum and public collections including the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts, Fine Arts Museums, San Francisco; Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive; Butler Institute of American Art; Crocker Art Museum; Oakland Museum; Weatherspoon Art Museum; and Yale University. Her work has been recognized with a Louis Comfort Tiffany Fellowship and has been reviewed in The Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Sacramento Bee, The New Art Examiner, Flash Art, and artpractical.com.
Couzens has taught as visiting artist and adjunct faculty at University of California, Davis and Santa Cruz; California State University, Sacramento; Scripps College of the Claremont Colleges; the San Francisco Art Institute; and University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Couzens has also written on contemporary art for The Sacramento Bee and squarecylinder.com.
Couzens was born in Auburn, California and received her M.F.A. from University of California, Davis in 1990. She divides her time between the Sacramento River delta community of Clarksburg and Los Angeles.
The closest parking is in Parking Structure 1 off College Town Drive. The daily parking machine is on the 5th floor and is painted a bright yellow. Daily permit is $6. Two-hour permit is $3. The machine accepts cash ($5, $1, quarters, dimes and nickels), Visa and Mastercard.
