Join us on July 19 for our annual M.R.E. Cooking Challenge at the California State Fair. This year's event will feature three rounds of cooking, with a special championship-round twist.
All cooking teams will consist of a National Guard chef from a different branch of the military, paired with a veteran from a local Veteran Service Organization. They will prepare meals using MREs (Meal, Ready-to-Eat) and limited ingredients and will be judged on taste, presentation, skill level, use of the MRE, showmanship and more.
Preliminary rounds begin at 12 and 3 p.m. and the championship round will begin at 6 p.m. at the SaveMart Kitchen inside California Building B.
Viewers and participants will gain free entry to the fair that day as part of Military and Veteran Appreciation Day (proof of military service required) sponsored by BloodSource. Viewers of the Cooking Challenge may also get a few samples throughout the day from the participants.
